A FAMILY was barred from an airport lounge for wearing Minnie Mouse T-shirts.

Emma Raikes was devastated when she and seven relatives – who included her two-year-old niece Quinn – were shown the door.

It came as they set off on a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

They had forked out £170 to access the Aspire Lounge at Manchester Airport’s Terminal 1 but were refused entry after turning up in matching Minnie Mouse tops with their names on.

Staff said the outfits breached their dress code. But Emma, 33, claimed the snub wrecked the start of their trip. Her mum had paid for the treat.

Emma said: “We are on a ‘familymoon’ to Disney and did not think a Minnie Mouse T-shirt with our name on would be seen as offensive.

“It was a disappointing start to our holiday.

“I wouldn’t mind but a Minnie Mouse T-shirt with our name on is not offensive in any way.”

Emma, from Leeds, added: “They eventually let us in but only if we put jumpers on.”

A spokesman for Swissport, which owns the lounge, apologised.

He said: “Our lounges do have a dress code in which we allow guests to wear a myriad of smart casual items and disallow other items such as tour shirts, sportswear and fancy dress.

“The member of staff who dealt with the family was wrong to have asked them to cover their personalised Tshirts and has misinterpreted the dress code. We sincerely apologise to the family for this genuine mistake.”

He added: “The entire team at Manchester Aspire Lounge will be re-educated on the dress code.”
