COMEDY legend John Challis has teased that Boycie could be making a return to our screens.

He played the much-loved character on Only Fools And Horses for more than a decade and was a massive hit with fans.

BBC bosses loved his performances so much they gave him spin-off The Green Green Grass, which aired from 2005 to 2009.

Its writer John Sullivan has since passed away but John Challis reckons there’s still a chance it could return.

He said: “We lost John five years ago. But if someone else could come up with a decent script then we would look at bringing it back.

“People love Boycie so much. He’s still in the public consciousness all these years later.”

John was devastated when The Green Green Grass was axed by Beeb bosses, because he loved playing Boycie.

In its fourth series it was still must-see telly for almost five million Brits.

John said: “We did four series. But then the regime changed at the BBC and they didn’t like it quite as much and they started shifting it around the schedules.

“In 2008 there was the credit crunch and a lot of things went on the back burner. We got sidelined, which was a shame.”

Boycie was famed for his annoying laugh and for regularly shouting “Marlene!” at his onscreen wife (Sue Holderness).
