Floyd must lighten up

-

IT IS hoped the games will attract new fans – and afterwork punters – to revive Test cricket across the world.

Many Tests in England sell out but a lot abroad are played in half-empty grounds, including Australia, except when they are playing a series against England.

Joe Root’s side next play a day-night Test in the Ashes series against the Aussies in Adelaide in December. THE first was in Adelaide in 2015 when Australia beat New Zealand and there were three more last year. MATCHES start at 2pm, with ‘lunch’ at 4pm and 20 minutes for ‘tea’ at 6.40pm, when the lights will be turned on.

Stumps are at 9pm, with play being allowed to go on until 9.30pm if 90 overs have not been bowled. Time lost to bad weather can be made up at both the start and end of the day, with 1.30pm the earliest start allowed and 10pm the latest finish. BECAUSE it’s easier to see than the traditional red one under floodlights. The white ball used in one-day cricket is not tough enough for Test matches.

®ÊBOXING

FLOYD MAYWEATHER JNR will fight Conor McGregor in 8oz gloves after the Nevada State Athletic Commission took the decision to change their own rules.

Most boxing authorities – including NAC – insist on standard 10oz gloves for fights at 11st and above.

American Robert Byrd will referee the light-middleweight bout in Las Vegas on Saturday week. ®ÊGOLF Pete york TELBOYS TACKLE
