HAGUE WARNING OF ‘LOADED GUN’

- By KATE NELSON

WILLIAM Hague says Brexit is like handling a loaded gun – but insisted it could be controlled without “shooting your foot off ”.

The former Tory leader said that leaving the EU was the “most complex task” any government had faced since the Second World War.

He wanted Britain to “take back control” and enter into a “very robust” free trade agreement.

Lord Hague, right, said: “It has to be delivered now, Brexit.

“With the right attitude on migration it’s possible to reach the right solution on trade.”

Meanwhile, Theresa May vowed free movement of EU nationals will end after Home Office plans suggested Europeans would not need work visas.

The PM sought to calm the waters ® after Whitehall sources suggested European residents could look for jobs in Britain without paperwork. Northern Ireland’s border might then become a “back door” into the UK after ministers confirmed that there would be no immigration controls between the north and south. But Mrs May said last night “We will have immigration rules and those will be for people coming from inside the European Union as today we have rules for people coming from outside the European Union.” She admitted there was “a lot to be done” in Brexit talks. Cabinet ministers fear trade negotiations could be delayed until Christmas
