GRENFELL HERO RORY, 18, MAKES THE GRADE
Exam lad helped survivors
A GRENFELL Tower blaze hero celebrated his A-level successes yesterday.
Rory Walsh took his exams just hours after helping survivors.
The 18-year-old pupil had rushed to the scene to help his neighbours after hearing about the fire.
But despite losing hours of sleep he managed to pass all of his A-levels.
Around 80 people died in the west London blaze on June 14.
Rory, right, said: “I just wanted to sleep the night before my exam – but that’s what they [the Grenfell residents] wanted to do too and they couldn’t do that.”
He is now planning a career as a personal trainer.
A-level results day saw boys outshine girls, with the lads getting more top Alevel ® grades for the first time in 17 years. A total of 26.6% of boys managed A* or A grades compared to 26.1% of girls. Students celebrating yesterday included Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, 20. She was shot in the head by the Taliban in 2012 but has now won a place at Oxford University to study politics, philosophy and economics. Two Syrian refugees were also celebrating after getting straight A grades just two years after arriving in the UK. Sulaiman Wihba came to Britain after stowing away in a van, while Elias Badin arrived in Greece on a small boat. The Brighton College pair now plan to study medicine in London.
