A MOTHER of six and her pal were machine-gunned to death by gangsters in a botched hit.

Children screamed as the killers sprayed bullets at Derek Devoy – who was holding a baby – but instead mowed down his “totally innocent” sister Antoinette and a friend, named locally as Clint Sheridan.

Devoy, 37, nicknamed Bottler, is said to have hurled his child to safety before fleeing over a wall.

Two children and a pregnant woman inside the family’s home in Dublin were also wounded in the attack.

Terrified neighbour Carmel Byrne said: “All we could hear was the sound of babies screaming hysterically. People were hysterical and I saw the girl on the ground.

“She was kind of in the hallway – all I could see were her legs and then I checked her and I knew she was gone.”

A police source branded the killings on Wednesday “a new low” following 12 underworld-related murders in the city since last year.

The insider added: “The two people who lost their lives are completely innocent. Gunmen deliberately tried to shoot a man dead as he held a baby in his arms.

“There are just no words left to describe what happened.”

Antoinette, who was in her 40s and had special needs, and Clint, in his 30s, had no direct connections to crime. Police had set up an checkpoint near convicted armed robber Devoy’s home to “keep him alive” after his 2015 release from prison.

His brother Michael, known as “Mad Mickey”, was murdered three years ago – just a day after being freed from jail.

The shootings are said to be in revenge for an attempt on the life of arch-rival Greg Lynch.
