Wife downs 3 bottles in 40-minute taxi ride
POLICE broke up a row between newlyweds after the bride necked THREE bottles of wine in the taxi to the airport.
Darren and Nadia Stanway missed their honeymoon flight following the 17-mile cab journey, which takes about 40 minutes.
Darren Stanway, 39, later told a court: “No more wine for the wife.’’
The couple started rowing after they arrived too late at Manchester Airport to catch their plane to Malta.
The groom, who had been drinking beer, was overheard shouting: “Stupid bitch – it’s all your fault.’’ As the pair ® sat at the empty boarding gate he stormed off to a bar.
Police found him drowning his sorrows, but he was arrested after telling them: “I’m going to f ****** sit here and drink my f ****** beer.
“I know I’m in control of my f ****** behaviour.’’
Stanway was fined £260 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £35 surcharge at Manchester Magistrate’ Court after admitting threatening behaviour.
His wife, 34, was given a £90 fixed penalty notice.
Stanway, from Congleton, Cheshire, has previous convictions for public order offences, threatening criminal damage and common assault.
Defending himself he told the court: “My wife drank three bottles of wine in the taxi on our way to the airport and I thought she had drunk one.
“Thing is she drinks wine same as when I drink vodka and whisky and she gets silly thoughts in her head.
“This was before we got to the plane. It started at customs.’’
Stanway claimed he was “abusive” because a police officer stood on his broken ankle.
“I had only had two pints and I wasn’t drunk,’’ he said.
JP Barbara Wall asked Stanway what he would do differently next time he was at the airport.
He told the magistrate: “No more wine for the wife.’’ A SCHOOLBOY raped his four-year-old sister and then bribed her to keep quiet with a bag of Skittles.
The 12-year-old lad assaulted the girl while they were playing hide and seek.
The girl, who is now five, told her mother of her nightmare ordeal while she was in the bath.
Investigators found a large amount of porn on the boy’s phone, Brighton Youth Court heard.
The boy, now 13, admitted rape and sexual touching.
He was found guilty of a second rape charge and the judge warned him he faced a severe custodial sentence.
