Fury at disaster pilot ‘getting away with it’
RELATIVES RAP CRASH PROBE
ANGRY families of the Shoreham Airshow disaster victims have blasted the slow investigation into the tragedy.
On the second anniversary of the crash yesterday they demanded a decision on whether the plane’s pilot, Andy Hill, should face charges.
Eleven men died when a vintage Hawker Hunter burst into flames after landing on the A27 in West Sussex.
Mr Hill is under investigation and is yet to find out if he will face any police action. But Giovana Chirico, 35, the fiancée of victim Mark Trussler, 54, said: “While Mr Hill has had these last two years with his famly, there’s 11 families who have been without their loved ones.” Edwina Abrahams, whose husband Maurice was killed, said: “The investigation is taking too long. It should’ve been dealt with already. “They need to get on with it.” Tragic Jacob Schilt, 23, was on his way to play for Worthing United when his car was hit by the jet.
His mum Caroline, 57, said: “There are times when we almost forget what happened to Jacob, and then you remember all over again. Then you get a sinking feeling just like we had at the beginning.”
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch found the plane was flying too low and too slow when Mr Hill attempted a loop-the-loop.
Det Supt Adam Hibbert, who admitted the probe had been “frustratingly slow,” said he had almost gathered all the evidence for the Crown Prosecution Service.
