HE’S SHAW TO RETURN

- By MIKE WHALLEY

LUKE SHAW has told Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho he is raring to go.

Shaw played his first game in nearly four months for United’s Under-23 side against Swansea on Monday.

The full-back, 22, has suffered almost two years of injury woe since breaking his leg in two places during a Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven.

He has also had to convince Mourinho that he has what it takes to make it at Old Trafford, after having his attitude questioned by the United boss.

But having recovered from ankle ligament damage to play an hour of Monday’s match at Leigh Sports Village, Shaw is desperate to make up for lost time.

Deal

Shaw said: “It’s been tough but I’ve been through it before and I know how to deal with it.

“When I look back at the injury I had last time, I think I’ve came back stronger this time and more positive.

“Now it’s about getting time on the pitch. I’m feeling really good.”

Saturday’s League clash with Leicester is likely to come too soon for Shaw but he could return after the international break.

Mourinho has made a point of including Shaw on club trips since his public dressing down.

The United boss took Shaw to Stockholm for May’s Europa League final, and on the preseason tour to America, as well as to Macedonia for the UEFA Super Cup defeat by Real Madrid earlier this month.

“It was really helpful,” Shaw said.

“It was great for team bonding. There are new players coming in and everyone needs to get to know each other better because obviously we’re going to be on the pitch together at times.

“It was nice, but at the same time it was frustrating and a bit sad because you want to be out there on the pitch.

“The games we played and the players we played against, I wished I was out there.”

Ashley Young also played in the game against Swansea as he steps up his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Both trained with the first team yesterday as did defender Marcos Rojo, who has been out since April with knee ligament damage.
