making e in age 0-somet shake petition Richard Dara Ó Ashton, nt of up. ode s nd son, y engiadult David - Beckham posted on social media that he had spent six days building a 4,000-piece Lego Disney castle for daughter Harper. The former football ace posted snaps on Instagram when he started the project and then proudly shared a picture of the finished model. Becks, 42, has previously revealed that he likes playing with Lego to relax. Back in 2014, he admitted: “When the kids finish school, they might have different activities going on, like football or rugby. “But when they get home we’ll often play one of their favourite games, like Connect 4. “They also love Lego. So do I. The last big thing I made was Tower Bridge. It was amazing.” He added: “I think Lego sometimes helps to calm me down.”

David is not the only one. Pop star Ed Sheeran once told how he went on a date, brought a Lego set (it was The Pirates Of The Caribbean pirate ship, specifically), made the Lego set, and... left.

Pastime

Other celebrity fans who have spoken of their love of the little bricks are Britney Spears, Richard Hammond, Brad Pitt and will.i.am.

So no wonder telly chiefs are jumping on the bandwagon and bringing the pastime to our screens.

Dom Bird, head of formats at Channel 4, said: “This contest will recognise some of the best and brightest amateur Lego builders, both young and old. We’re excited to bring this celebration of innovation to a family audience.”

Steph Harris, the show’s executive producer, added: “This playful new format demonstrates that Lego bricks are more than just a toy – or something to step on.

“They appeal to the child in all of us – by showcasing spectacular builds and inspiring the next generation of artists, engineers, architects and builders”.

But like any good TV contest, each round will get tougher to build.

And at the end there will be only one pair of winners crowned the Lego Masters.

They must be bricking it. O

Lego Masters begins tonight at 8pm on Channel 4.
