ELECTRIC ENABLE

- By JASON HEAVEY

ELECTRIFYING Enable floated across the Knavesmire to a stunning victory in the Yorkshire Oaks and moved a step nearer superstar status.

John Gosden’s filly had the perfect prep for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe for which she is a red-hot favourite.

Victory at Chantilly on October 1 would put her on a par with wonder fillies Treve, Black Caviar and Goldikova in the eyes of the racing public.

It was Enable’s fourth Oaks victory of the season after wins in the Cheshire, UK and Irish versions. She also battered her elders in the King George at Ascot last month.

Yesterday she made all the running under Frankie Dettori although Gosden said she got bored and lonely in front on her own.

Gosden said: “In the last two furlongs she was just plain bored and wanted some company.

“She was idling and being in front isn’t her favourite way of racing although she can do it. It was a lovely prep for the Arc. It was a choice between coming here to win a Group One, or a racecourse gallop in three weeks’ time.

“We had a lot to lose today. Remember Taghrooda (who lost at ®

1-5 in 2014)? Enable is the best mile-and-a-half filly I’ve trained. Golden Horn was the best 1m 4f colt. The Fugue was the best at 1m 2f and Royal Heroine at a mile.”

Meanwhile, Mark Johnston, who won the 1,000 Guineas with Attraction in 2004, is dreaming of more Classic glory with Threading, winner of the Sky Bet Lowther Stakes.

The filly had not shown much in her work until recently but connections paid £15,000 to supplement her and, ridden by James Doyle, she reeled in Wesley Ward’s US speedster Happy Like A Fool to win the £142,000 prize.

Johnston said: “She is one of those wonderful horses that did not come on the radar until late on.

“On that evidence she should stay a mile.

“The 1,000 Guineas will be in our minds although this has all happened so quickly and we only supplemented her five days ago.”
