A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a toddler.

Police were called to a house shortly after midnight yesterday where they found the boy’s body.

The victim’s mother, who was injured, and the man had gone to hospital – where he was arrested and she remains in a serious condition.

Officers had already been called to the property in Wythenshawe, Manchester, on Friday.

Supt John-Paul Ruffle said: “We have had one previous domestic incident reported on August 25 and that investigation was still ongoing.

“A self-referral will be made to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.”

He said the investigation was at an “early stage” and he could not disclose many details of the case, including the age of the victim, although he described him as a young toddler.

Supt Ruffle said: “Police were called to a report of a domestic incident.

“On arrival they discovered a man and woman had gone to hospital.

“When officers entered the property, sadly they found the body of a young boy. The woman is being treated for serious injuries.” A driver, 39, arrested after a high-speed chase with a coffin on his car roof said he was rushing to his doctor because he was dying of cancer in Little Rock, Arkansas.
