UP NEXT: Liverpool (h), Premier League, Saturday September 9. Referee: Mike Dean 4. man YOUR TURN: Who was the last to score a hat-trick in a City-Cherries game? KEVIN DE BRUYNE rounded on Premier League officials after Manchester City’s dramatic smash and grab raid.
Raheem Sterling netted a 97th-minute winner but he was sent off after being shown a second yellow card for his celebration with City fans.
De Bruyne said referee Mike Dean’s decision and his earlier failure to dismiss Nathan Ake for bringing down Gabriel Jesus when through on goal were the latest examples of referees getting it wrong.
The game ended in pandemonium with police coming onto the pitch as City players celebrated with their fans. A claim by Bournemouth that Sergio Aguero punched a steward was withdrawn with the home club saying it was a “misunderstanding”.
Afterwards playmaker De Bruyne said: “I have had three games which have had so many incidents, so I don’t really know what to say about it.
“I don’t think Raheem deserves a yellow. It wasn’t his fault but obviously you get yellow cards for doing nothing and red cards for doing nothing.
“I would understand if he jumps into the stands but he stayed on the pitch and people came to him.
“I think Bournemouth should have a red card which would have changed the game.
“It’s not a good sign when the referee has so much attention.”
Screamer
City dominated but fell behind to a screamer from Charlie Daniels in the 13th minute. The defender smashed in a half-volley from outside the area.
That kicked Pep Guardiola’s side into gear and they equalised eight minutes later when Jesus latched on to David Silva’s pass.
City snatched the points two minutes after injury time was due to have ended.
Home keeper Asmir Begovic was also left seething with referee Dean’s performance.
The former Chelsea player said: “Look at the extra time, you could see a couple of things didn’t go our way that’s for sure.
“They scored in the seventh minute, when it should have been five minutes (of added time). There were probably a couple of dodgy calls at the end.
“But we were on the wrong side of it and I think the bigger teams do get those calls.
“It’s maybe a thing because maybe the bigger teams put more pressure on and maybe they get more calls, more decisions.
“It’s the way it is. We’ve got to get on with that. There’s no need to feel sorry for ourselves. We have to crack on and control what we can control.”
