Logan can reward supporters

PAGES OF FANTASTIC

- By PATRICK WEAVER

THE consistent MOUNT LOGAN (4.20, nap) can be rewarded in the Poundland Stakes at Epsom today.

He has not put his head in front since winning at Doncaster in September but Roger Varian, pictured, his trainer believes the gelding retains his ability.

The six-year-old was not disgraced on his latest start when chasing Frankuus home at Haydock earlier in the month.

This event will not take much winning and the first-time cheek pieces will help his cause.

Midterm will be the obvious danger but this one-time Derby hope appears to have fallen out of love with the game.

Ayrad, a former stable companion of the Mount Logan, is also on the decline. He finished behind the selection on his latest start.

It could be the dream result if THAMES KNIGHT (3.50, nb) can land the Poundland Derby for amateur riders, run over the same distance as the classic.

The five-year-old is handled by the Derby winning trainer Marcus Tregoning and is ridden by his son George. And just for ® good measure Thames Knight is a son of Sir Percy who won the Derby for his trainer in 2006. His recent run, when beaten by Silver Ghost at Goodwood, reads well. Silver Ghost has since won his next two races. The booking of Ryan Moore for MAKE GOOD (2.05) cannot be overlooked. The colt finished a respectable second on his latest start behind Narcos in a decent event at Doncaster earlier in the month. Richard Fahey, the trainer of Narcos, is responsible for the danger in Powerful Society. But she needs to improve. Owen Burrows can continue his return from the wilderness by taking the Listed event at Ripon with ENJAZAAT (4.30). The colt looked smart when trotting up at Yarmouth and was not disgraced in better company at Newmarket when finishing sixth behind Cardsharp.
