Floyd Mayweather comfortably took apart Conor McGregor before forcing a 10th-round stoppage to break Rocky Marciano’s record and walk away from the ring forever as unbeaten in 50 fights.
What else was going to happen? It wasn’t a fix like some had feared but it was never going to end any other way than most had predicted.

This mega-money match felt like it was written beforehand in the city that is a regular location for movie blockbusters.
The big announcement, the wild media tour and the complete circus of a build-up was followed by a bizarre bout.
The only surprising thing was that it took longer than expected for the finish to come.
That was down to McGregor’s toughness and ability to take right hands without going down, something he deserves credit for. He offered little else.
The crowd in the arena and some watching at home may have been entertained by the spectacle but it was basically the best boxer since Sugar Ray Leonard bullying a debutant, no matter how good his UFC record is.
The Irishman’s size and unorthodox style gave Mayweather problems early on while his work rate was enough to win him the first three rounds.
That had some in the arena believing there could be a shock on the cards, but that would prove to be foolish as the script remained intact.
There were pockets of Irish fans scattered around the venue but it was not the hostile environment it was expected to be for Mayweather.
Instead it was a mix of boos and cheers for both from their ring walks to the end.
Mayweather was simply being patient early on and figuring out McGregor because he only threw 16 shots in the first six minutes.
