Joe’s hungry after a starter

BURTON striker Joe Mason scored with his first touch for the club and is hungry for more.

Mason, 26, arrived at the Pirelli Stadium on loan from Wolves last week.

Albion boss Nigel Clough sent the striker on as a second half sub against Sheffield Wednesday and within 31 seconds Mason levelled the scores. He said: “It’s given me a taste now. I want to come back and have more of that goal-scoring feeling. There’s no better feeling.

“It was just instinctive. I didn’t really have time to think about it. I just tried to make a good connection on it and it was nice to see it go in.

“I want to get as many goals here as possible. I’m a striker who likes to be in and around the box.

“That is where I get most of my goals and hopefully I can get a few more while I am here. I was aware Burton were interested just before the Birmingham game. I came to watch the game and since that game it happened really quickly.

“It was very easy decision. I wasn’t getting a chance there. To have the chance to come here and play regular football, it was a no-brainer.”

Wednesday had led through Gary Hooper’s silky backheel.

Frustrated Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal was left ruing more dropped points after draws with QPR and Sunderland.

He said: “Six points first five games – we can do better. Everyone in the Championship probably has the same feeling.

“We stop now for the international break.

“I think it is very good to us because we can recover players who are injured and the market is open and we can try to find players.”
