Sawyers: We root for Ryan

ROMAINE SAWYERS was pleased to see Ryan Woods back in a Brentford shirt.

Woods, 23, made his first appearance at Griffin Park since losing his child this month. Fans gave the midfielder a standing ovation after he came on as sub against Wolves.

Sawyers was not surprised at the support given to his team-mate.

He said: “It shows what kind of club we are, from the players to the staff to the fans, obviously it’s an emotional time for his missus, but we’ve all been supportive of him.

“I think it was a great reception for him to get back and be around it again.

“To play and keep a clean sheet at home is good. We were kind of tired towards the end.

“It is a bit frustrating but you have got to look at the positives.

“The performances have been good, but the luck hasn’t been going our way.”

Neither side deserved to lose in a contest that deserved more than its scoreless result.

The hosts saw Neal Maupay and Jota come close, while home keeper Daniel Bentley denied Leo Bonatini.

Brentford played better than their recent record suggested, while Wolves continued their good start.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo put that down to his side willing to learn from mistakes.

He said: “They know that the first step for you to improve is when you ought to recognise what you did.

“They have access to all the games, and all the moments in them.

“It’s getting there. I’m proud of the boys as they come into training sessions to really improve.

“We analyse together, making and recognising mistakes is the first step to growing up.”
