Fergie planning to break Posh drought
DARREN FERGUSON is out to avoid an unwanted hat-trick against his former club Peterborough. Doncaster boss Ferguson has fond memories of his two spells in charge at Posh, leading them to three promotions during his six years at London Road. His record against them since joining Rovers in 2015 is less impressive – played two, lost two – although the 45-year-old insists the first one at the start of his Keepmoat Stadium reign shouldn’t count. “I’ve got two defeats against them so far, but I’m not counting the first one,” he said as his side prepare to host the League One leaders today. “It was my second game here and I’d only just walked through the door.” Ferguson keeps in touch with developments at a club he twice led into the Championship and who are looking to return to the second tier for the first time since they were relegated under the Scot in 2013. Their 54-point haul during that campaign is the highest by any side who dropped out of the division.
“It’s the place where I started my career in management. I had some decent success and still live not far from the area so it’s always going to be a club I look out for,” he said.
“Saying that, it’s a while since I left now, so when it comes to Saturday it’s all about earning those three points. That’s all that interests me.”
Rovers, who beat Championship side Hull to book their place in the third round of the Carabao Cup, are bidding to bounce back from their first defeat of the season, a 2-0 reverse at Wimbledon.
Ferguson could give a debut to Harry Toffolo, 22, after the defender’s arrival from Norwich on loan.
“We hope last week’s performance was a one-off,” said Ferguson.
“We’ll have to be a lot better and we know that if we do certain things right when we’ve got the ball we’ll cause problems for Peterborough.
“They will provide us with a real threat, but they know they’ll be in for a tough afternoon.”
