ANT'S GONG SHOW
DRUG HELL STAR GETS BIG BOOST
TELLY presenter Ant McPartlin was celebrating being back on top last night after his rehab drug hell.
The Geordie, who has battled painkiller addiction, and co-host Declan Donnelly were crowned kings of entertainment at the TV Choice Awards.
Pals of the pair said they were glad to be back on top again after a torrid few months which saw the 41-year-old checking himself in for addiction to prescription painkillers in the summer.
The pair, just weeks ahead of their TV return in I’m A Celebrity…, were among the winners as Saturday Night Takeaway won the Best Entertainment Show award.
The duo have now received 24 TV Choice Awards in their career together.
Neither were able to attend the bash at the Dorchester Hotel as Ant continues to adjust to everyday life.
Elsewhere, Broadchurch swept the board with Best Drama series as well as Best Actor and Actress awards for David Tennant and Olivia Colman. This Morning was named Best Daytime Show.
Emmerdale were the undisputed winners in Soapland. Ryan Hawley (Robert Sugden) and Charlotte Bellamy (Laurel Thomas) were named Best Soap Actor and Actress.
Sally Dexter (Faith Dingle) made it a clean sweep for the Yorkshire show when she was named Best Soap Newcomer.
The ITV show also retained the Best Soap trophy. The winners, announced by host Richard Osman, were decided by the British viewing public.
An event spokesman said: “The awards celebrated the best of the last 12 months in TV as some of Britain’s biggest celebrity names scoop the coveted trophies.
“ITV’s drama Broadchurch bowed out on a high, scooping the Best Drama award for its final series alongside acting awards for its stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman. There was also joy for ITV in the Best New Drama category, as Little Boy Blue beat The Crown and Victoria.”
Mary Berry won the top honour with Outstanding Contribution to Television.
The former Great British Bake Off judge said she believes the new series will “do well”.
