TIME TO CALL MY BLUFF

- By PATRICK WEAVER

WITH rain forecast for all three turf tracks, Kempton is the course to turn to for the best bet of the day.

BLUFF CRAG (8.20, nap) won at the Surrey track last month and is again ridden by his trainer Richard Hughes’ competent claimer, Finley Marsh.

A 4lb rise for a length-and-a-half success is not at all harsh, whereas Siege Of Boston has a 6lb penalty for winning at Chelmsford by a nose.

With the other six runners out of form, there is a good chance Bluff Cove will follow up his recent course success.

NEZAR (7.50) has yet to win off his current mark for Dean Ivory but he was beaten under a length off it when last seen at Brighton in June.

His wins are few and far between but he is more consistent these days. A second win of the year is on the cards.

Goodwood stages the day’s three most valuable races. The six two-year-olds with racing experience in the188bet.co.uk Maiden Stakes are much of a muchness and do not appeal.

It is likely that it will be won by one of the three well-bred newcomers – HIGHLAND SKY (2.40), Silver Crescent or Showroom.

The betting will be a help but our Newmarket man is keen on Jamie Spencer’s mount, so the Camelot colt gets the nod.

ARMUM (3.15) should be more at home in handicap company than at Royal Ascot where he was run off his hooves. If he can recapture the form he was in back in the spring he should win. CORPUS CHORISTER (3.50) can give Pulborough trainer David Menuisier his first winner of the season at his local track. Aurora Gray has finished in the money in her last seven races but has yet to win on turf.

Marjorie Fife will be hoping Courier can win Hamilton’s feature race for the second year running. Preference though is for GUISHAN (4.45) who won the race in 2015 and has been successful twice since tested in foal in April.
