Hero Ben on bench

- by RALPH ELLIS and JAMES CANDY

WALES wonderkid Ben Woodburn is set for a place on the bench tonight despite his match-winning heroics.

The 17-year-old marked his international debut off the bench with a stunning winner against Austria on Saturday.

But boss Chris Coleman is set to name him among his subs again for tonight’s World Cup qualifier in Moldova.

Gareth Bale has taken the credit for persuading Woodburn (left) to choose Wales over England.

Bale says a quiet chat with Liverpool ace Woodburn two years ago was the key for him to pledge his allegiance to Chris Coleman’s revolution.

“I actually remember meeting Ben during a game against Holland,” said Real

“We lost the game and they deserved to win. We let Wales down that night.”

Wales trail the Republic of Ireland by two points and could move into second place in Group D with victory in Moldova and a defeat for Martin O’Neill’s men against leaders Serbia.

Saturday’s win over Austria has breathed new life in Wales’ qualification campaign.

A win tonight and another against Georgia next month would set up a potential qualification showdown in Cardiff with Ireland on October 9.

And Coleman is determined to keep the pressure on.

He said: “The biggest game we’ve had in a long time is this one – it’s obvious what we have to do.

“Serbia and Ireland have to play each other but whatever happens there, we have to take care of our own business.

“If we can catch Serbia, then we have to catch Ireland. The gap can’t be more than two points when Ireland come to us.

“We did that against Austria, and we have to do that again on Tuesday.” MOLDOVA (4-5-1): Namasco; Bordian, Posmac, Epureanu, Armas; Carp, Cebotaru, Ionita, Mihailov, Dedov; Bugaev. WALES (3-4-2-1): Hennessey; Davies, Williams, Chester; Taylor, Allen, Edwards, Gunter; Ramsey, Bale; Vokes.
