TERRIFYING: Irma roars in BRITS and celebrities were evacuated or cowering in shelters yesterday as one of the worst hurricanes ever roared towards them in the Caribbean.

Sir Mick Jagger, Donald Trump and Sir Richard Branson were among celebs with homes under threat from the 200mph mega storm Irma while Brit tourists fled Florida.

BRITISH tourists and ex-pats were last night trapped in the path of Hurricane Irma.

The 200mph mega storm had grown to the size of France as it neared the US.

It is the most powerful Atlantic hurricane ever recorded.

As tens of thousands of people were evacuated across the Caribbean, Virgin boss Richard Branson, 67, refused to leave his private island of Necker.

Supplies

He vowed to booze in his wine cellar while Irma raged.

Stores in towns along the US east coast were being emptied of food and supplies as residents prepared for it to make landfall, with Florida set to bear the brunt of the storm.

Officials said the Keys islands could be the first to be hit.

Cammy Clark, spokeswoman for Monroe County, warned: “This is not one to fool around with.”

Walter Cotte of the Red Cross said: “The forecast as it stands is extremely worrying. We are anticipating major impacts on a number of islands.”

Storm shelters across the Caribbean were full of families.

Officials in Barbuda cut power amid fire fears. They had earlier warned the 1,600 locals: “May God protect us all.”

Carmen Yulín Cruz, mayor of San Juan in Puerto Rico, said her island could be without power for six months. International Development Secretary Priti Patel last night said a Royal Navy ship with 40 Royal Marines, Army engineers and vehicles, tents and facilities to purify water was ready to help.

She said: “Our staff are on standby, both in the UK and at post, to support any British people affected.”

Airlines were slated for hiking the prices of flights. One £120 American Airlines flight from Miami to Hartford hit £780. The multi-million pound mansions belonging to several big names were set to take a battering.

President Donald Trump has a £12million St Martin home, while The Rolling Stones’s Keith Richards has a property on the Turks and Caicos islands.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s £39m home in St Barts was also threatened.
