Our Boys to rescue after Irma
BRITISH troops proved they can turn their hand to anything as they helped the Hurricane Irma recovery.
Our hard-working boys cleared debris off roads on the island of Tortola, fixed the airport runway’s lights, restored water and got power working again. Their most important effort was to get the airport functioning so aid agencies can bring in supplies.
Those getting stuck in were part of 59 Commando Squadron from 24 Commando Royal Engineers, based in Barnstaple, Devon. Much of Tortola and the other British Virgin Islands was reduced to rubble by the hurricane.
