Biking to beat rail hell

-

A CITY worker got so sick of train delays he now cycles 88 miles a day to get to work.

Superfit Alistair Crook uses pedal power to do the 44-mile journey in just under three hours.

It used to take him two hours and 20 minutes to get from home in Wokingham, Berks, to London’s Waterloo station.

The BT engineer said: “I was fed up with constantly getting to the station to find my train was late or even cancelled.

“Even when the train was running on time we were crammed in like sardines.

“It was creating a lot of extra stress.

“Cycling helps me keep in shape and saves money.

“I find cycling a lot more relaxing.”

His route takes him through a number of the capital’s parks.

Alistair added: “I get to see herds of deer most days and until I emerge the other side of Richmond I don’t encounter the London traffic.”
