Comic show is reheated

CLASSIC NEW SERVING

-

VICTORIA Wood fans will be thrilled to learn that they are going to get an extra helping of her hit sitcom.

A new TV series will delve into private diaries and notebooks which the late comedienne kept when she penned the show.

It will give an insight into how talented Victoria – who died last year from cancer, aged 62 – put the comedy together.

They have never been made public before but bosses at Gold have been given special access to these – and also rare unseen footage from filming – for a new threepart documentary. Many of the outstanding cast from the show which first ran between 1998 and 2000 – such as Julie Walters, Thelma Barlow and Celia Imrie – are tipped to be taking part. A source said: “Victoria put pen to paper and wrote Dinnerladies some 20 years ago. “She’d never written a sitcom before and this was a big thing for her. “How do we know? Because she recorded all her thoughts and feelings in diaries, notebooks, photos and backstage footage. “And this is what we will be featuring.” The series will also reveal why former successful stand-up comedienne Victoria decided to end the show after just two seasons. The documentary is actually something Victoria had privately discussed doing to mark the Dinnerladies anniversary shortly before she died. Gold bosses decided it would be fitting to make it as part of their 25 Years of Gold series. ¬ Dinnerladies Diaries will air on Gold next year.
