Engagement to Towie babe seconds out
RIO Ferdinand’s bid for a new future as a champion boxer will be a proper knockout success when the former England football star slips a ring on girlfriend Kate Wright’s finger, his pals say.
® FORMER England footballer turned TV pundit Rio Ferdinand is now aiming to become a champion boxer.
The Manchester United legend has his sights set on a major title – despite not even having a boxing licence yet.
The 38-year-old, who is backed by bookies Betfair, is aiming for TV fights in 2018 before going for a belt.
And pals reckon Rio is also interested in another ring – amid rumours he is about to ask girlfriend Kate Wright to marry him. He said: “I’ve always had a passion for boxing. This is a perfect opportunity to show what’s possible.”
Rio, who will be trained by ex-super middleweight champ Richie Woodhall, says his kids have demanded he wins as his journey is filmed for a telly documentary.
“They said: ‘Dad, don’t get knocked out!’”
But he’s already been knocked out by former Towie babe Kate, who has quit her modelling career to raise his kids.
One pal said: “Rio is all about the ring right now. His ambition is to win a belt in boxing.
“But we reckon he’s after another ring longterm – an engagement ring for Kate. She’s given up everything for him – now it’s time for him to commit to her.”
