Fergie’s Wenger wind-up

- By GEORGE SCOTT

® DONCASTER boss Darren Ferguson has been taking tips from his dad as he looks to pull off a giant-killing at Arsenal.

And if his League One side can seal a famous win at the Emirates in the Carabao Cup tonight, he knows he will have upset Wenger just as much as Sir Alex ever did.

Ferguson said: “I’ve spoken to my dad about this tie and we’ve talked about the rivalry between him and Arsene.

“They had their fair share of battles in the dugout but, above all else, they had a great respect for one another.

“Now it’s my turn to take on Arsene and I can’t wait.

“It baffles me that he has come under pressure from fans down there. Arsenal were absolutely right to give him a new contract.”

Even so, Ferguson will be only too happy if his side are the cause of more flak coming Wenger’s way.

He added: “At the very least the aim is to give Arsene one hell of a game.”

Jack Wilshere is set to make his first start for Arsenal in 16 months after recovering from a broken leg suffered on loan at Bournemouth.

Wenger said: “He is a special player but we are all the same in that you need health to work. It is important now that he stays a long period without any setbacks.”

Wenger has confirmed that Danny Welbeck will be out for at least three weeks with a groin injury.
