Roo hasn’t blown United role

- By JEREMY CROSS and STEVE MADELEY

WAYNE ROONEY will still be offered the chance to become a Manchester United ambassador despite his drink-drive shame.

Rooney agreed to the role when he signed his last contract extension at Old Trafford in 2014.

His decision to join Everton in the summer means United are no longer obliged to give him the position when he retires.

But despite his image being tarnished after he was banned from driving for two years and handed 100 hours of unpaid work, United bosses are still prepared to give him the £100,000-a-year role.

Meanwhile, Old Trafford chief Jose Mourinho has told Michael Carrick (right) to be patient.

The former England international was named United captain in the summer but has not made a single appearance since the new campaign started.

The veteran could start in tonight’s home Carabao Cup tie with Burton and Mourinho said: “We gave Carrick a contract because we think he is a good player and an important player.

“He is just in a team where Matic and Fellaini are in the best form that I have seen.”

Burton boss Nigel Clough says Mourinho is just like his legendary dad Brian.

Clough Jnr said: “The way they go about it and the way that they deal with things in such a no-nonsense manner is similar.

“It’s black or it’s white and that’s it. If a player does the job for him, he has him in and if he doesn’t, that’s it.”
