Luke’s Hoops are out of luck

-

LUKE FREEMAN bemoaned Burton’s defensive game plan after Rangers failed to find a way through.

In a match that won’t live long in the memory, Freeman felt the visitors had travelled to Loftus Road with the sole purpose of gaining a draw.

“I don’t think it was a fair result, we dominated possession,” said Freeman.

“They’ve come here for a point and that’s exactly what they’ve got.

“It’s a frustrating result. It’s hard when they get numbers behind the ball like that because they had no intention of coming here and trying to play.

“They had a plan of not losing and it’s tough trying to break teams down when they play like that.”

Despite the stalemate, Rangers remain unbeaten at Loftus Road this season and sit in 11th place, no mean feat for a team predicted by many to struggle this term.

Freeman said: “We have to take the positives. It’s been a tough, tough start to the season. We’ve played some very good teams.”

It was Burton who came closest to breaking the deadlock when Sean Scannell cut inside from the left and hit the near post in the 12th minute.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game,” said Albion’s Lucas Akins.

“We had to match them physically and when we got opportunities, we had to try and get the ball down and play.

“We worked on starting fast and putting them under pressure. I thought we did that really well.

“It feels a bit like a couple of points lost when you look at our first-half performance, where we were on top and created some decent openings.

“It’s never a negative thing coming away from home and picking up a point but we were trying to go for the win.” ®Êby TOM HARVEY
