MOEEN ALI was the chief executione­r as England put the West Indies to the sword in Bristol yesterday.

Ali scored a stunning 53-ball hundred as England won by 124 runs to go 2-0 up in the five-match one-day series.

Afterwards captain Eoin Morgan vowed there would be no mercy and that he will pick his strongest teams for the final two games later this week.

West Indies captain Chris Gayle did his best to keep his side in it as they chased a mammoth victory target of 370.

Gayle passed a fitness test on a hamstring strain then smashed 15 boundaries before being run out for 94.

But even that paled before an astonishin­g performanc­e from Ali, whose ton was the second fastest by an England player in ODI cricket, after Jos Buttler’s 43-ball effort against Pakistan in Dubai in 2015.

All-rounder Ali murdered the Windies bowling. At one stage he smashed 61 runs from just 14 balls, including eight sixes, and brought up his second 50 in only 12 deliveries – a world record in ODI cricket.

West Indies did their best to help him out, Gayle dropping a simple chance at backward point when he was on 87.

Fellow spinner Ashley Nurse then dropped him in successive balls before, next ball, Ali skied one to Jason Holder at long-on.
