DOCTOR Foster looks set for a killer finale next week.

The drama’s writer Mike Bartlett has teased that a third series “might not be possible”.

His comments will lead fans to think either vengeful Dr Gemma Foster (Suranne Jones) or her cheating ex husband Simon (Bertie Carvel) might die.

Asked about writing another series, Bartlett said: “Depending on what happens at the end of series two, a third might not be possible. That’s all I can say really.”

Fans are expecting an explosive conclusion to the BBC series that has had the nation gripped with more than six million tuning in every week.

Last week feuding Gemma and Simon shocked viewers by ending up having “hate sex”.

Tonight fans will see how their secret sex session causes their lives to spiral even further out of control.

Meanwhile, actor Bertie says that, much to his relief, the public do not recognise him when he goes out shopping.

He tells Radio Times: “I’m aware there are people on the internet saying how much they hate Simon Foster. So I suppose that puts me at risk.

“But I’ve never been recognised. I think it’s because I don’t look like Simon Foster.” And few people know that he once starred in the musical Matilda as a cross-dressing terrifying teacher Miss Trunchbull.

The penultimate episode of Doctor Foster is on BBC One at 9pm this evening.
