BLUES FEAR OVER CONTE

- By DARREN WITCOOP

ANTONIO CONTE has cast major doubt over his long-term future at Chelsea.

The Italian admits he misses his homeland and has no plans to continue managing abroad.

Conte led Chelsea to the Premier League title last season and signed a new two-year deal in July.

But Conte, 48, remains far from settled in England and he was strongly tipped for the manager’s job at Inter Milan in the summer. He stayed put and his wife Elisabetta and daughter Vittoria are now believed to be living with him in the capital.

But he said: “I miss Italy, there is no doubt.

“It’s not in my mind to stay abroad for too long.

“Yes, it’s good to have beautiful experiences, but I intend to go back to Italy one day.

“That’s my country. I will return and I don’t know when but that’s the aim.

“There’s desire on my part to try to do the best I can, finish one project and then find the right one to continue.” Conte, who takes his Chelsea side to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League tomorrow night, claims he could even quit the dugout for good.

Ex-Juventus boss Conte fancies a crack at becoming a sporting director.

Speaking to Italian radio station Radio Anch’io Sport, Conte added: “Let’s just says coach is a temporary worker.

“This experience is helping me so much.

“But I would also like to change roles and maybe become a sporting director in the future.”
