HUBBY CUT WIFE’S THROAT
® A NURSE killed by her husband in a murder-suicide had her throat slit, it emerged yesterday.
Graphic designer James stabbed Amy before setting himself on fire and burning to death at his parents’ house.
The body of the 32-year-old neonatal nurse was discovered at the couple’s £190,000 marital home.
Friends said they had recently been struggling with marriage problems.
Just hours before the tragedy, James, 30, changed his Facebook profile to a picture from their 2014 wedding.
Amy’s mum Valerie Shimel, 68, paid tribute last night to her daughter, saying she had grown into a “strong, confident woman”.
She added: “Amy was a fantastic, funny, beautiful and caring girl. She was known as my precious gift, my first born and the best big sister to her two younger sisters.
“Her loss has left a huge hole in not only mine and her father Jez’s hearts but to all those that loved Amy. It will never be filled.
“We are all so, so proud of her. Amy was a precious gift to so many people, who smiled with her eyes.”
Amy’s body was found at home in Birmingham after her husband killed himself in his parents’ garden in Streetly, West Mids, at about noon on Monday.
Detective Inspector Caroline Corfield said: “This is a terribly sad case which has left two families grieving. It is believed that following Amy’s murder, her husband James later took his own life at a family address.”
