Red does not Ad up for Villa

- ®Êby BILL HOWELL

GLENN WHELAN has pointed an angry finger at Adam Le Fondre for getting Neil Taylor sent off.

Aston Villa will appeal the straight red handed out by referee Jeremy Simpson in added time – Taylor’s first since breaking Seamus Coleman’s leg on international duty in March.

“It was a hard tackle but our player is saying he hasn’t touched him,” said Villa midfielder Whelan.

“You can see he has jumped straight up once he has seen the red card.

“If you are injured, you are injured. I think staying down and then jumping up once the red card is given... it is not what you want to see.”

Villa won it with a Jonathan Kodjia penalty, but Bolton could have snatched a late draw as Gary Madine’s header was cleared off the line by Whelan and Madine’s goal-bound shot was blocked by Chris Samba.

Bolton have lost eight consecutive league games and have failed to score in their last seven, but Madine has backed Phil Parkinson to turn things around. “All the lads are fighting together and the fans are still with us and that’s brilliant, so we will keep working hard,” he said.

“We all believe in him and I love playing for him. He is a really good manager and his manmanagement is brilliant.

“He is getting the best out of me every week. I am thankful and I hope that I’m still working for him for as long as I’m here.”

Villa have won four straight league games and next up head to Molineux for a tasty derby.

Whelan added: “Wolves are doing well at the minute but the way we are playing and the results we are getting, not many teams will want to play against us.

“The two lads up top give us a target to aim for and are a handful. Then we are keeping clean sheets as well.

“It is about everyone knowing their jobs and their role.”
