BRITAIN’S original killer clown has been fired from his job at the Circus of Horrors because he is “too scary” for kids.

Doug Child, 40, who loved his work, said: “I am just devastated.”

THE original ‘Killer Clown’ has been axed by the Circus of Horrors for being “too scary”.

Doug Child, who plays gruesome Rellik the Psycho Clown, has terrified audiences for two years.

But he has been told he will have to come up with a new character, tone down his act or get a new job over fears that scared circus-goers will run in panic from the show.

Observers claim Rellik was the inspiration for the terrifying clown craze that shocked the UK last year. The nation was plagued by hundreds of reports of idiots dressing up to frighten strangers on the street.

In the space of 24 hours one day last October, Thames Valley Police alone attended 14 incidents.

Police are now raising fears of a fresh outbreak of clown attacks this autumn in the lead up to Halloween following the cinema release of It, the horror film starring killer clown Pennywise.

Circus of Horrors creator Dr Haze said: “Our philosophy has always been that

people like to be scared and not be harmed. But with last year’s Killer Clown outbreak people began to fear they would be harmed.

“Stephen King’s It is a different thing, it is clearly a movie and Pennywise isn’t going to jump out of the screen.

“And with another copy-cat Killer Clown outbreak expected this Halloween, we decided to go down a different route and create a scare that wouldn’t put people off coming.”

But Doug, 40, who previously played Camp Dracula, said: “I am devastated.”
