Ron has a Porty

CRISTIANO RONALDO is on his way to Russia as Portugal pinched top spot in Group B with victory over Switzerland last night.

Pop star Madonna was watching as Portugal got into the World Cup groove at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.

Former Arsenal defender Johan Djourou scored an own-goal before the break before Andre Silva sealed

Portugal’s place in Russia, finishing from close range early on the second half.

Switzerland now go into the play-offs along with Greece, who ended Slovakia’s slim hopes of being in next Tuesday’s draw with a comfortable 4-0 win over Gibraltar.

Belgium had already secured top spot in Group H and finished off their qualifying campaign in style with a 4-0 win over Cyprus.

Eden Hazard bagged two goals and his brother Thorgen grabbed another before Romelu Lukaku came off the bench to score.

There was to be no miracle comeback for Holland, who needed to beat Sweden by seven goals to leapfrog them into second spot in Group A. The Dutch got off to a decent start, Arjen Robben putting them ahead from the penalty spot before doubling his tally 10 minutes before the break.

But that was as good as it got for Dick Advocaat’s side, who follow failing to qualify for Euro 2016 by missing out on the World Cup finals for first time since 2002.

It is also the first time a Dutch side has failed to make it to successive major tournaments since the 1984 European Championships and the 1986 World Cup.

France ensured they will be in the draw in Moscow on December 1.

Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud was on the scoresheet in a 2-1 win over Belarus in Paris to top Group A.
