New Star Wars out of this world
Star Wars, the teaser
® STAR Wars fans were sent into a spin yesterday when the trailer for the new film was unveiled two months before its premiere.
The clip from Star Wars: The Last Jedi was unveiled during an American football game in Chicago.
And the 154-second trailer gave fans a glimpse of what is in store in the highly-anticipated sci-fi series, which picks up from where 2015 movie The Force Awakens ended.
Fans described the clip as “the greatest trailer ever made”, as others said they would book tickets straight away for the film’s winter release.
But for followers mourning the death of star Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia, the trailer was a bittersweet moment, marking the actress’s swansong.
Megastar Carrie died in December after suffering a cardiac arrest midflight from London to Los Angeles. She was just 60. And the new trailer for Episode VIII hints that Leia may be killed off in the movie.
According to Luke Skywalker star, Mark Hamill, 66, Leia’s role in the film had to be cut down due to Carrie’s passing. He said: “Worldwide, everyone feels that gap she left.”
Other stars include John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) and Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico). The film, which was trailed at half-time in the televised game between the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings, opens in the UK on December 14.
