Jose: Nothing to prove
JOSE MOURINHO insists Manchester United have nothing to prove at Anfield on Saturday.
Unbeaten United go to Liverpool with pundits claiming the Premier League is a two-horse race between them and neighbours City.
The game is United’s biggest test so far and their first meeting with one of last season’s top six.
But the United boss said: “We have to prove nothing. This is press or pundit talk – that we have something to prove, Lukaku has to score and we have to win. It’s one match, one result, one performance. That’s not going to change anything.
“At the same time, in these kinds of matches, every single moment plays a part.
“We are playing against a good team with very good players.”
Mourinho returns to Anfield a year on from the corresponding fixture when his side ground out a goalless draw.
United and their manager were widely criticised for their defensive ‘park the bus’ mentality back then.
But, 12 months on, Mourinho insists a side which now features in-form Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic is far better equipped for a title run.
He added: “I think we are a better team. Does that mean we are going to be as successful as last season, winning two titles? I don’t know. But we are better.”
Meanwhile, Mourinho said he still does not know when Paul Pogba might be back after a month out with a hamstring injury.
