A MARKET trader was banned from selling “offensive” Knights Templar mugs in case they upset Muslims.

Tina Gayle was ordered to remove the £6 cups from her stall. Someone moaned to the council they were offensive because the knights killed Islamists in The Crusades more than 700 years ago. When she refused to remove the mugs, the mum-of-five was banned from Loughborough market, Leics. Tina, 57, said: “It’s absolutely, completely bonkers. The Knights Templar were fighting monks used to protect businessmen travelling across the Holy Lands. “Whoever made the complaint needs to study the history books.” Charnwood Borough Council said Tina had “displayed serious misconduct” which includes selling items which could be offensive. He said: “It’s not for us to comment as to why the mugs were offensive to the complainant.”
