trained normally, but without the group.

“I will get into the group to see how I feel, but at training it’s not the same thing as a game. I want to see if I have pain.

“When I got to the hospital I asked the doctor if I could play for City on the Saturday. He said, ‘I don’t believe so’.

“I took a moment to think and realised it’s thanks to wearing a seat-belt that I’m able to talk about this at all.”

Guardiola will only recall Aguero if he is absolutely certain that the 29-year-old can withstand a buffeting from Stoke.

The manager does not want to risk rushing back the striker and then making the injury worse if it has not healed properly.

Aguero scored six goals in five games for City before his injury, and is just one short of equalling the club’s all-time scoring record of 177, set by Eric Brook between 1927 and 1939.

Abused

Meanwhile, Yaya Toure has offered to help tackle racism at next summer’s World Cup.

The City midfielder says not enough has been done to stop racism in Russia since he was abused while playing for City against CSKA Moscow four years ago.

Even though the Russian authorities claim they have got the problem under control, Toure is not convinced.

He said: “I want to say to FIFA and to the government in Russia as well that if you need me, I can help.

“If racism situations are going to be involved, then it is going to be a big mess.

“Everyone is talking about Russia maybe being a little bit difficult. But I hope that Russia surprises everybody by trying to make something very nice.

“I have played football in Ukraine and Russia as well before I moved across Europe. It’s like my second country because I used to speak Russian as well.”
