CHAMP'S A ROLE MODEL

-

WWE is coming at fans thick and fast in the run-up to Survivor Series next month and this weekend we have another furniture-based extravaganza to savour.

Tellingly, WWE’s “TLC” (Tables, Ladders and Chairs) event includes two women’s matches high on the card including RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss defending her title against Mickie James.

A popular figure despite her heel persona, Bliss emerged from the red hot furnace of NXT in 2015 as valet and general incendiary device of tag team Blake and Murphy.

The Ohio native was fast-tracked to the main roster and hasn’t looked back with two title wins on RAW and Smackdown so far.

Bliss, 26, talks up the next moves in the women’s revolution – either a women’s Rumble match or even an Elimination Chamber encounter.

“I would love to see that happen as it would be a lot of fun and it would show we are still progressing,” she begins.

“We’re constantly evolving. We’re getting opportunities to main event, showcase what we can do.”

Bliss says she adored Trish Stratus and Rey Mysterio as a youngster: “I was a gymnast at the time and watching Rey’s style of wrestling really intrigued me.”

The advent of Asuka to in-ring action perhaps overshadows the title match on TLC as she faces Emma in an NXT London reprise: “I’ve watched her develop and grow, transitioning styles of wrestling and I’m excited to see what she can do. I would love for her to try to take my title and to be the first person to beat Asuka in WWE. I’d love to show everyone that she’s really not that unbeatable.” It is a great thing that two marquee singles matches take pride of place on a big monthly show, which shows how invested the company is in continuing the work done for women’s wrestling. Alexa agrees: “That’s one thing WWE is great at – we have every type of woman. Everyone defines beauty and strength differently and we have a person who represents that for everyone.”

TLC comes after the announcement that The Shield; Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns will be headlining shows on the UK tour in November and will headline on Sunday.

That’s an official rubber stamp on what we already reported – that the trio will be the fulcrum on which most of what we see in the coming two months is built, until thoughts turn to the Royal Rumble and the road to Wrestlemania.

Someone forgot to tell one D. Ambrose during the week however, as he missed his interview with the UK media. The thought of someone other than Braun Strowman trying to put that particular gentleman on the naughty step is laughable however. Hopefully, he’ll be on the phone to FT in due course. ¬Ê Catch The Shield and Alexa Bliss in the WWE Live UK tour from 1-9 November, presented by WWE 2K18 the video game.
