KELLY Clarkson is plotting to hook up with Sam Smith for a gospel record.

The soulful duo both have albums out in the next few weeks but they are already thinking of happyclappy follow-ups.

Kelly told me: “The UK have some great soulful, gospel singers. You have Sam Smith, and Adele killing it.

“Sam is such a great talent, I would absolutely love to work with him.

“He had me since he covered How Will I Know. I was like ‘Excuse me – who is this boy right now covering Whitney Houston?’

“He is super super talented, I am so in.”

The American Idol winner insists her album The Meaning Of Life, out tomorrow, delivers real music. “People really do crave that live musicianship that is on this album. “I think the music industry is making a turn back towards that now,” she gushed. And Kelly believes there’s so little new pop talent out there that even her three back-up singers are better than anything currently being played on the radio. The Love So Soft singer continued: “I’m not dissing anyone but that’s just how good they are. “And there’s nothing that sounds quite like us out there. I wanted to bring back those sounds that inspired all of us as we are literally the same age, and they sound insane!” And Kelly said that made picking lead singles very difficult. “Sometimes you get three or four singles on albums, but I’m a fan of full records. Every one could have been the lead single.” IN HARMONY: Kelly and Sam
