I’ll wait my turn

CITY HERO BRAVO BEARS NO GRUDGE

- By IAN WHITTELL

SHOOT-OUT hero Claudio Bravo has vowed to put his ego to one side to help the man keeping him on the bench.

Bravo was the star of the show in Tuesday’s penalty shoot-out win over Wolves in the League Cup.

But the goalkeeper accepts he will be back on the bench for Manchester City’s Premier League trip to West Brom on Saturday, playing second fiddle to Ederson.

The 24-year-old Brazilian has kept eight clean sheets this season – one fewer than Bravo kept over the whole of last term – after replacing him as first choice.

Bravo said: “I take things with calm. Ederson is performing really well, also the team is in great shape, things are going great.

“I must wait. I must keep working hard, keep doing things alright. There’s no other way.

“I’m not the kind of player who throws in the towel. Quite the opposite. I must support Ederson and the rest of the team, keep training as best as possible and when I have the chance to play, try to do what I did in the cup. “You support the team as much as you can. “I’ve got a lot of experience and I support Eddie, who is doing well, he’s a young keeper who needs people advising him. “We get on well. It would be egotistical to not help him grow, to not give him some words of advice. I think it’s my job, with my experience, and it helps things go well and helps us to achieve things.” Bravo, 34, saved twice in the shoot-out to help send City into the quarterfinals, with Sergio Aguero taking the decisive kick. “My approach in these situations is to be strong, to feel calm, to make the penalty taker feel nervous,” he added. “But we hope we can win the matches before they get to penalties.”
