Owls of anger frustrate Tom
TOM LEES has urged Sheffield Wednesday to dismiss the speculation surrounding boss Carlos Carvalhal.
The Owls skipper expressed his frustration after a Harvey Barnes wonder strike extended a disappointing run to one win in seven.
Wednesday paid the price for squandering chances as battling Barnsley hit back to claim a point.
“It’s difficult, especially with a lot of the rubbish that’s been said,” Lees said.
“People are frustrated, everyone wants to win.
“We’ve put ourselves in this position, so it’s up to us to get out of it. We’ve got to keep believing in ourselves and play to the levels we know we can.”
Lees says one way they will turn around their fortunes is by scraping one-goal victories when they cannot kill off the opposition. “Some teams at the top don’t play well, they play horrendous football and win,” he added.
“It’s about finding a way of winning. That’s what we need to do.”
Wednesday took a freak first-half lead when Adam Reach mis-hit a left-foot shot which looped in off his right boot.
But there was nothing lucky about the 20-yard leveller from Barnes, the latest spectacular strike from an exciting talent who was part of England Under-20s’ World Cupwinning summer.
The Leicester loanee said: “It was a special moment, the best of my goals so far, taking into account the occasion too.
“If it does open up to have a shot, I do back myself to at least test the keeper.”
The teenage midfielder, who had a loan spell at MK Dons last season, added: “I am getting better with each game.
“It is a step up from League One and it took a bit of adjusting early on, but I am growing with confidence.”
