MATIC: I DON'T CARE IF BLUES FANS BOO ME

- By JEREMY CROSS and PAUL BROWN

NEMANJA MATIC is on a mission to pile on the pain for his former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte on Sunday. The Manchester United star admits he could not care less if Blues fans abuse him when he returns to Stamford Bridge. The Serbian has been a top performer for United since joining from Chelsea in a shock £40m deal in the summer.

And Conte’s decision to sell the midfielder is starting to look like one of the worst of his managerial career. Matic

said: “When I played there, I always gave 100 per cent and we won two titles together and won a cup.

“I’m sure the fans respect that, but if not, I don’t really care.

“The only thing I can say is that I am happy to be part of United now. I’m happy to be working with Jose Mourinho.

“When I played at Chelsea, I always gave my best to help the team, but now Manchester United is my club and I will try to win there.

“You’ll have to ask the others if I have a point to prove. But I feel when I played there, I showed them my quality.

“I don’t have to prove anything to them. I just have to prove something to my new club.”

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois admits Chelsea are struggling this season without Matic.

He said: “We know Nemanja’s qualities. He is someone who last year gave us balance.

“He decided to go to CONCERNS: Mourinho another team, so we won’t live in the past.

“Our midfield is very good, and we have very strong players.

“But if you have two injuries in midfield, then, of course, you can say we miss Nemanja because he is another quality player and he is doing well in Manchester.”

Courtois admits Sunday is a must-win game for the champions. He added: “Yes, Manchester City are nine points ahead of us, United four, Tottenham just one.

“So if you want, this game is a must-win game to remain at the top and remain close to the other teams.” JOSE Mourinho has been invited by fans to “discuss his concerns” about the Old Trafford atmosphere.

The United boss has been critical of fans recently and a statement from The Manchester United Supporters’ Trust read: “There are differing views among supporters on precisely how to interpret the manager’s comments.

“MUST would appreciate the opportunity to engage with the manager, as part of our existing dialogue with other club officials, on issues around atmosphere.

“We would be more than happy to meet to discuss his concerns.”

Mourinho is set to attend a court hearing in Madrid tomorrow to face accusations of tax evasion during his time as Real Madrid boss.
