STANLEY SURVIVE SCARE

BEN REEVES ensured Truro’s FA Cup adventure finally came to a halt at The Valley.

Addicks winger Reeves struck twice as the National League South part-timers – the first Cornish team to make the first round in 48 years – bowed out.

It was Truro’s maiden appearance in the first round and boss Lee Hodges said: “I’m very proud to make it to this stage and the performance was fantastic.

“We gave a really good account of ourselves and left everything out there. It’s was a very special day for our fans and for the club.

“To be clapped off by the Charlton supporters shows how well we played.”

Charlton set the tone for their first-half dominance when Reeves shot the League One promotionchasers in front after 10 minutes.

A sweeping move saw Reeves collect Jay DaSilva’s pass before the midfielder fired home past Truro keeper Thomas McHale.

Charlton – 76 places and three divisions higher than their opponents – didn’t have it all their own way, however.

Tyler Harvey threatened to level before Chris Solly came to Charlton’s rescue when he cleared the striker’s shot off his own line.

However, Mark Marshall looked to have finished the tie as a contest in the 53rd minute, cutting in and unleashing a shot which deflected in off Truro’s unlucky Ed Palmer.

But Harvey’s 59th-minute header from Aaron Lamont’s cross threw Truro and their 1,000 travelling supporters an unexpected lifeline.

That was until Reeves struck again in the 70th minute to all but send Charlton through, his low shot having too much power for the inspired McHale.

Addicks boss Karl Robinson was delighted with the result but still praised the visitors.

He said: “We were on a hiding to nothing and it’s all about the win.

“Truro gave it a right go and gave us a stern challenge. They have done a phenomenal job this year and deserve so much praise.”
