DON’T GO DYCHE

SAM VOKES is desperate for boss Sean Dyche to stay at Burnley.

Dyche has taken the Clarets to seventh in the table but is on Everton’s shortlist to replace Ronald Koeman.

But, after coming off the bench to sink his hometown club, Vokes hopes his in-demand boss is still at the club when he returns from international duty with Wales.

Vokes said: “The gaffer deserves the recognition he has got.

“He has done great over the five years since he got here and that’s what happens, the big clubs come looking.

“It’s part and parcel of modern football. It is something that is always going to happen when you are doing well, you are going to get linked to places.

“He is doing a great job with us and I hope he is still here when I come back.

“I think everyone knows our status as a Premier League club now. Not just on the pitch, but off the pitch as well. We are a proper Premier League team now and you feel that every day at the club.

“You see it day in and day out, we work hard and we are a close unit with a great bunch of lads and that comes from the top.”

Punished

Vokes reckons Everton would be a step down for Dyche at the moment anyway.

He added: “You look at the table and you can see where we are, the table doesn’t lie at this point.”

Burnley deservedly picked up their third away win this season thanks to a late raid.

Southampton had most of the possession but they were punished when substitute Vokes headed past Fraser Forster in the 81st minute after being picked out by Johann Berg Gudmundsson. Saints have failed to score in nine of their last 16 Premier League matches.

Defender Maya Yoshida said: “Football is all about scoring, so if we don’t score we’ll never win. Scoring is the most difficult thing in football as well.

“We’ve dropped so many points. We had to win against Brighton and the three points that we dropped today are so important.

“We cannot regret it now, we have to look forward and have to think about why, how we can change and improve.
