LAST ORDERS FOR DANNY

RL WORLD CUP Disgrace as drunk Scots trio barred

- from JULIE STOTT in Perth

DANNY BROUGH and two Scotland team-mates have been kicked out of the World Cup in disgrace. The Bravehearts skipper, Sam Brooks and Johnny Walker were all too drunk to catch a flight from New Zealand to Brisbane early yesterday morning. The airline refused to let them board and Scotland reacted by axing all three from their squad. Scotland Rugby League chairman Keith Hogg said: “They clearly had been drinking in an inappropriate fashion. “The airline were quite within their rights to say what they said. They were supported by all of us. “We expect everyone involved in Scotland Rugby League to adhere to the highest standards of behaviour. “We fully support the code of conduct that is in place for everyone who is involved in the 2017 World Cup.

Thrashed

“We all understand our responsibilities to the game and we must respect the sport and everyone who is involved in it at all times.

“Unfortunately, these three players have not adhered to those standards and those values and will be leaving early from a tournament that it is a privilege for us to be involved in.”

The loss of Huddersfield star Brough, Featherstone prop Brooks and Bradford forward Walker is a huge blow to coach Steve McCormack.

His side have been thrashed by both Tonga and New Zealand but still had a chance to qualify for the quarter-finals. They need to beat Samoa in Cairns on Sunday but those hopes now look gone.

All three players went out drinking in the wake of Saturday evening’s 74-6 stuffing by the Kiwis in Christchurch.

Hogg said: “The consequences of that became very obvious at the airport.

“It’s very easy to say that occasionally these things happen but whenever they do it’s incredibly disappointing.”

Hogg added that “all three players were very contrite” and accepted they had “over-stepped the mark.” LEIGH hooker Eloi Pelissier has also been sent home from the World Cup by France for breaking a squad curfew.
