Moyes: I’ll wow Hammers fans

- By PAUL BROWN

DAVID MOYES has vowed to win over the Hammers hate mob by playing the West Ham way.

But he will have to do so without a bumper transfer kitty as the Premier League strugglers will not be spending big in January.

West Ham fans are in uproar over the club’s decision to appoint Moyes, 54, with the board shocked by the strength of feeling against him.

The Scot, who will be unveiled today, said: “West Ham supporters are a very passionate group and we need them behind us.

“How do we do that? By building a successful team, and that’s what we are aiming to do.

“I hope West Ham fans are going to see a team that is organised and disciplined. But I have always only ever wanted to be involved with attacking, entertaining football.

“I feel confident, with the group of players we have got here, that we can provide that.”

West Ham went for Moyes after high-profile candidates like Carlo Ancelotti, Rafa Benitez and Guus Hiddink snubbed the club.

But he will not be given big money to spend in the transfer market, and will have to sell to fund

any major purchases. The former Manchester United, Everton and Sunderland boss said: “I think we have got a good squad.

“At the moment they should be in a better position than they are and I believe they will be come the end of the season.

“I’ve got no doubts about that but ultimately we have to show it on the pitch.”

Moyes insists he is comfortable with his initial six-month deal.

The Scot added: “We’ve done a contract which suits both parties, we are all comfortable with it. Let’s get the job done and then talk at the end of the year.”

Hammers co-owner David Gold believes Moyes can help move the club away from danger.

“I think we’ve got the best man available at this time and I’m sure he’ll take us forward,” he said.

West Ham are in the bottom three with just nine points from 11 games, the same amount they had at this stage of the season in 2011 when they went down.

Moyes is expected to bring former West Brom head coach Alan Irvine in as his assistant with ex-Hammers favourite Stuart Pearce also lined up for a role. Pearce, who was at the London Stadium for Saturday’s 4-1 defeat by Liverpool, said: “I’ve had no contact but I would certainly go and talk to them.”
