Wing king Watson to roar again

- By PETE SAMSON

ANTHONY WATSON wants to wing it like a Welshman for England against Argentina at Twickenham on Saturday.

England flier Watson shone alongside Wales wing Liam Williams for the Lions last summer, growing into one of the players of the series.

Now he plans to use the Saracens ace as a role model as he sets out to light up Twickenham over the next three weeks.

Coach Eddie Jones says England need to find some X-factor before the World Cup and Watson is hoping some of Williams’ stardust has rubbed off on him before the Tests against Argentina, Australia and Samoa.

Watson said: “He’s not arrogant or cocky but he’s very confident in every situation and playing alongside him in the Tests was pretty cool and definitely gave me confidence as well.

“I feel like I learned a lot from the tour, from playing with some of those stars like Johnny Sexton and Liam, guys who have very contrasting approaches.”

While Watson and Elliot Daly will be on the wing for England, Jones wants to try both of them at full-back at some stage as back-up to long-serving Mike Brown.

Jones will reveal his hand today with the likelihood that Maro Itoje and Owen Farrell will be rested to prevent burn-out. THE RFU have agreed to pay cash-strapped Samoa, who play England at Twickenham on November 25, £75,000 as a goodwill gesture.

Samoan prime minister Tuila’epa Sailele Malielegaoi, who is also chairman of the Samoa Rugby Union, yesterday declared it bankrupt and launched a public appeal for funds.
